Durham native, Tamisha Waden, is no newcomer to the music scene. She’s been working diligently, carving out a place for herself in an ever changing music industry. Tamisha is a child of the black church and began singing at the age of six. Her father is a pastor who quickly found a place for the emerging star to cultivate her gift.
Tamisha, Sophie or Songbird as her close friends and family affectionately call her, would later attend North Carolina Central University where she studied music and graduated with a BA in Music Education and a BM in Jazz Music Performance with a concentration in voice. A captivating singer/songwriter, Tamisha is a passionate, soulful performer who takes listeners on a journey of the ups and downs of life and love. Her sound, reflective of her southern gospel roots, embraces the essence of Tamisha.
Tamisha’s debut EP Mixed Emotions is scheduled for release on November 10, 2015 and oozes funky, soulful, feel-good music wrapped in a meaningful message. Tamisha carries a style too varied to place in a small box.
Tamisha says, “I just want to inspire and encourage the hearts of people through music”. “I want to create timeless music that feels good, soothes the soul and transforms lives. I want to be relatable and stand with all that is popular in an overly saturated industry of up and coming artist.
She currently tours and performs with Grammy nominated duo, The Foreign Exchange and has shared the stage with: Melba Moore, Roy Ayers, Grady Tate, Tony Terry, Tom Browne, Bob Baldwin, Marion Meadows, Yahzarah (Purple St. James), and many more.
