The Shakedown's Mardi Gras Party (proceeds go to Art of Cool)

  • Lincoln Theatre

Hailing from Raleigh, The Shakedown performs classic dance covers spanning artists from soul, R n B, reggae and other rhythmic genres. The band is comprised of members of local bands like The Foreign Exchange, Jeanne Jolly, Peter Lamb and The Wolves, Orchestra Gardel and The Mint Julep Jazz Band, among others. The Shakedown prides itself on throwing unforgettable dance parties featuring music that is itching to be brought back to dance parties in a reenergized presentation.

On 2/12 The Shakedown will be hosting a Mardi Gras party featuring music from New Orleans funk and R n B. The Shakedown will pull from the music of The Neville Brothers, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John and The Meters, among others. They will be joined by Al Strong and his jazz ensemble for a set of New Orleans jazz. Part of the proceeds of the night will go to The Art of Cool Project, a Durham-based non-profit whose mission is to expand the jazz audience in the Triangle by presenting, promoting and preserving jazz-influenced music.
